I develop professional websites by hand (i.e. built in raw XHTML code, without use of a 3rd party development tool - ensuring I have a complete understanding of how the website is working and have more flexibility and control).
The technologies I use most often during my projects are PHP, XHTML, CSS and Javascript - although if your requirements differ please contact me and I'll attempt to facilitate your request. I'm proud to say that any site that I deliver is created to W3C Web Standards. This means that the website is more accessible for blind/disabled users - as well as being better for Search "robots" to understand - increasing the visibility and the ranking of your website on sites such as Google, Yahoo and MSN Live Search.
For the design of your website, I like to work with you as closely as possible to come to a design which is both relevant and effective, while still providing an excellent user experience to your visitors.
Different people work in different ways - some people like to be very hands on and have a very good idea of how their website should look - which is great. Others tend to prefer to take more of a back seat and comment on design ideas I give them. Either way is fine - and your word on the subject is final, but if I believe that certain design elements will impact on the end user experience, I will inform you.
Content Management is the name given to an application that a user can login to in order to update their website's content. This allows changes to be made as soon as they happen - and an up-to-date website is a useful website.
There are two ways of making updates to your website. If you believe your websites content will not be updated very often (for example, if its a conversion of a leaflet) then its possibly best to contact me when you want changes made to the site. I usually charge a small surchage for this work to be done. However if you believe that content updates will be more frequent, or if you want to control exactly what goes onto the site yourself, you may wish to add a content management system into your website.
Either using well established third party tools or even creating bespoke web applications, I can ensure that content-management websites that I develop are simple to maintain and add to. I can tailor solutions to your personal abilities and provide a user-friendly interface which will allow you control over your the content of your website.
It's reasonable to say that an informative website, with good, "well-planned" content will do well in web search results.
However, it is often advantageous to optimise a site to ensure that search crawlers (such as Google, Yahoo or MSN) are aware of the content and message that you are attempting to provide. I can help to organise your content to maximise the information available to search engines when they index your site.
